UnityPoint Health Medical Assistant/Office Clerk in Muscatine, Iowa
Primarily responsible for answering incoming calls, using proper telephone etiquette, scheduling appointments, follow-ups, checking patients in and out of the office, proof reading paper work and ensure proper paper work is in the charts for nurses and physician. Also responsible for directing patients to exam rooms, taking history, vitals and preparing patients for procedures, exams and treatments. Performs spirometry, audiology, respirator fit testing, drug and breath alcohol testing. Must be able to be flexible between the two positions of Medical Assistant and Office Clerk.
Answers outside calls, relay calls to the proper personnel, transfers and/or holds calls when necessary using AIDET and proper phone etiquette.
Checks patients in and making sure appropriate paper work is scanned and in the chart for the nurses and provider. Ensure that follow-up visits are scheduled if needed
Sorts and files documentation in patient charts.
Responsible for locking doors, closing and locking chart files, and transferring in-coming telephone line to answering service at the end of each business day.
Demonstrates a commitment to a high degree of customer services and quality of work.
Exhibits positive written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
Miscellaneous duties to be assigned as necessary to ensure proper functioning of the Occupational Medicine department.
Directs patients to proper exam rooms, obtains history and vital signs.
Prepares patient for exam, procedures and treatments
Demonstrates ability to assist with exams, procedures and treatments
Prepares and administer medications as directed by a physician following medication policy
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs for the patients.
Functions cooperatively with health care team with patient care under supervision of the Occupational Medicine Business Manager and/or physician.
Must demonstrate the ability to be a flexible, organized, self-starter and must be able to function in fast paced/stressful situations.
Must maintain a good working relationship within the department and other departments.
Other duties as assigned and as needed to support the department.

EDUCATION BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an approved medical assistant program, preferred certification. Candidate must have prior experience in a health care and office setting.
Also requires ability to meet deadlines and organize/prioritize a variety of job responsibilities. Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Must be certified screen collector or willing to complete certification within 3 months of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and communicate effectively, written and verbal.
SKILLS: Pertinent skills as defined on the position/department specific competency list, including but not limited to: proficient data entry, e-mail, phone skills, verbal/written communications, filing, problem solving, confidentiality, customer service, flexibility, and multi-task oriented.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
